This is very important for three reasons.
1. We are trying to help people by using their pooled "grassroots" knowledge in one place where it can help everyone who wants to save money on prescription and OTC drug prices. We are not asking these people to join an organization to do so. We do not require people who want to share ideas to register in any way with us. This will create a problem for us limiting "spam" posts, but that is our problem not yours.
2. There are a lot of "fake" grassroots organizations out there. It is called "Astroturfing"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astroturfing after the name for artificial grass. These fake groups do things like nation-wide "Letters to the Editor" campaigns that all have identical letters and push a certain point of view. Although we encourage people who visit this site to actively fight the spiraling costs of drugs. We don't want "cookie-cutter" letters, emails, and phone calls to people who can help fix the problems. We don't give you examples of things to say because it is your own words (as lousy as they may seem to you) that REALLY has an impact.
3. We believe The Slash Drug Costs organization could be liable if someone posts something that falsely defames a person or company. Also, if there is an up swelling of movement against the drug companies to make them play fair, they may blame us.
The key is that the founders of this site have no assets and therefore are not concerned about any lawsuits except those meant to shut down the site. The people who are generous enough to share ideas about saving money are NOT PART OF The Slash Drug Costs organization. They do not have a liability if this site is sued. When we say that we could use "grassroots" support through the media if we are sued. We are talking about the old fashioned... "the people rising up to right a wrong"... not the new manipulation of the term that means "the people being told exactly how to respond to a perceived or artificial wrong".
So... go out and save some money! :D
